“Do you see it?”

At its simplest, this is a photograph of a woman and her child.

But in the contrast between light and dark, in the composition, in what is included and what is left outside the frame, a language begins to appear.

A book gives you the words and asks you to imagine the story. A photograph can give you the visuals, but you must find the words.

You must read it.

I have made a careful selection of photographs from more than thirty years of work. They are grouped into categories connected not simply by what they depict, but by the stories, moods and ideas they carry.

I hope you enjoy reading them.
